Regenerative Food Garden Planning

Rooted in Tradition, Knowledge, and Regeneration
I help individuals and families grow nutrient-dense food using regenerative, biological, and organic gardening methods — right in their own gardens. My mission is to support home-scale food production that nourishes people and the planet.
Based on the Sunshine Coast of British Columbia, I bring over 30 years of experience planning and building food gardens that are practical, inclusive, and deeply rooted in ecological health.

About Dave

Rooted in Knowledge & Tradition – Homegrown Tastes Better
I learned gardening from my grandparents — my grandfather was a prairie grain farmer, and my grandmother a dedicated home gardener. I’ve spent over 30 years working in regenerative agriculture across British Columbia and beyond.

I’ve helped develop gardens for restaurants, community food systems, schools, and First Nations food sovereignty initiatives — using organic, biological, and regenerative approaches that support healthy people and ecosystems.

Why This Matters

Homegrown gardening is about Nourishment and Wellness.
Research shows that gardening reduces stress, improves mood, and encourages physical activity. Eating what you grow supports your gut health, immune system, and relationship with the earth.

When families grow their own food in their own backyards, they’re cultivating nourishment, resilience, and healing — from the soil up.

🌱 Testimonial from Daniel – Growing Abundance with Farmer Dave

Working with Farmer Dave was an absolute pleasure. He guided us step-by-step in setting up 12 raised garden beds at our home in Roberts Creek, with a focus on growing vegetables that would sustain us with an extended, abundant harvest throughout the growing season. Together we planned for a diverse selection of crops—baby greens, salad mix, carrots, kale, potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, beets—and even added a few blueberry bushes to round things out.

Dave was meticulous in helping us build a healthy soil foundation. He advised us on the right ratio of crushed mineral base to compost and topsoil, producing a rich, well-balanced growing medium. From there, he helped us choose high-quality organic seeds and seedlings and gave us detailed guidance on seed spacing, companion planting, and planting schedules to ensure a continuous harvest.

He also helped map the garden beds based on our property’s sunlight patterns and created an efficient watering schedule that kept things thriving through the summer heat.

As vegetarians, fresh produce is a central part of our diet—and thanks to Dave, we enjoyed daily harvests of nutrient-rich, plastic-free greens right from our own backyard. The garden truly nourished us in every way.

Dave’s fee was very reasonable, especially considering the depth of his knowledge, his personal care, and his commitment to helping others grow real food. He genuinely cares about healthy soil, healthy plants, and healthy people.

We recommend him wholeheartedly and without reservation.

🌿 Testimonial from Monika – Learning to Grow, the Joyful Way

Dave made everything feel doable. I was brand new to gardening, but he walked me through each step with such patience and care that I soon felt confident in what I was doing. He helped us set up 12 raised beds, and spent extra time teaching me how to start seeds indoors, care for seedlings, and transplant them at just the right time.
We focused on growing the foods we eat most: fresh salad greens, carrots, kale, potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, beets — and we added a few blueberry bushes too. Dave showed me how to space the seeds, how much to water, how to use companion planting to help things grow, and how to plan the beds based on the sun’s path across our yard.
It was so satisfying to watch the garden grow, and even more rewarding to harvest food from it every day. We had beautiful greens all season, and I felt proud knowing we grew it all ourselves — no plastic, no pesticides, no trips to the store.
Dave was easy to work with, always on time, and full of helpful suggestions. His fee was really reasonable for everything he offered, and you could tell he genuinely wants people to succeed in growing their own food.
I’m grateful for what I learned and excited to keep going next season.

🌻 A Community Garden Rooted in Regeneration – From the Gumboot to the Sechelt Hospital Pilot

Over the past decade, Dave has quietly helped transform several key gardens on the Sunshine Coast into living examples of regenerative agriculture.

At the Gumboot Restaurant Garden in Roberts Creek, Dave designed and developed a full one-acre garden — including a hoop house — to provide daily fresh greens and seasonal produce for the restaurant’s “100-Foot Diet” menu. His soil-building techniques and plant selection created a resilient, nutrient-dense harvest year after year.

Dave launched a regenerative garden project in collaboration with the Salish Soils Regenerative Farm Society and the Sechelt Hospital to begin supplying nutrient dense produce for hospital patients and staff. Across each project, Dave brought not only his deep agronomic knowledge, but also a clear sense of purpose — that healthy soil leads to healthy food, which leads to healthier communities.

These projects remain ongoing legacies of what’s possible when you treat the soil as a living system and grow food with care, respect, and vision.
